This is the story of an image taken on a beach in North Wales. I was on holiday for a week near Caernarfon, and was close by this particular location. I visited the beach a number of times before finally getting the perfect conditions.
I was going to be making a photograph using my Large Format camera, which for all intents and purposes is an old style 'view' camera, despite actually being new. This type of camera is slow to set up but highly tactile in use and a real joy to operate. The nature of the rapidly changing light close to sunset meant that I really only had one chance to get an image.

Once Set up, I focussed the image and added a graduated filter, then took a few meter readings with a hand-held light meter (the camera has no electronic aids), and then exposed a sheet of Kodak Ektar 100 colour negative film.

Just the one exposure was, thankfully, all I needed.
